Injured Goffin has to withdraw

07/06/17, 20:15

David Goffin had to withdraw from the Ricoh Open. The world’s number 11 will not recover in time from an ankle injury he sustained in his third round match at Roland Garros.

Goffin got injured in his match against Horacio Zeballos when he tried to return a deep ball from the Argentinean. The Belgian player slipped, at full speed, under the tarp which was there to cover the court in case of rain. The result was a ruptured ankle.

Goffin had to stop his match and has not yet fully recovered and is forced to withdraw from the Ricoh Open which starts on Monday.

It is not precisely known how long Goffin will be out of competition.

Gasquet
Richard Gasquet had to withdraw his participation too. The Frenchman is still recovering from a femur injury which he sustained in the third round at Roland Garros.

During his match against fellow countryman Gael Monfils, the world’s number 25 started to feel a severe pain in his right femur at the end of the second set. Gasquet did win the second set, but could not finish the match. The 30-year-old pupil of Sergi Bruguera likes long rallies, but by playing offensive Gasquet managed to play a few more games until 3-3 in the third set. The pain became too severe and he had to give up.

The Frenchman will not recover in time to compete at the Ricoh Open.  It is not known how long he will be out of competition.
