Libéma Open Stories #1: Sjeng Schalken

07/06/20, 16:06

Libéma Open 2020 had to be cancelled due to the Corona pandemic and was postponed to 5-13 June 2021. This week, the week the tournament would have taken place at the beautiful grass courts of the Autotron ‘s-Hertogenbosch, we look back at some of the players’ greatest, funniest, most emotional and most successful moments during the tournament.

We kick off with twofold winner Sjeng Schalken.

Schalken still has a strong bond with the tournament since his first performance in 1994. The winner of 2002 and 2003 saw the tournament grow and is still connected to the Libéma Open as ambassador.

Schalken was known for his tactics on court and wrote a book in which he explains how to beat every player. Roger Federer’s name is also mentioned because the player from Limburg defeated him in the quarter finals on his way to his first title.

Although Schalken is very organised, he almost missed a match. He will explain what happened in this video interview.
