Andy Murray has to withdraw from the Libéma Open. The former world’s number one has not recovered in time from his hip operation in January and will have to postpone his comeback on the ATP tour.

Tournament director Marcel Hunze: ‘We were looking forward to Andy’s participation. Unfortunately he will not be present this year, but we understand his decision. We have built a good relationship with Andy and his team and we hope this helps to have him play in Rosmalen in the future.’

Murray played his last match last year against Sam Querrey in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. After a long period of rest the threefold Grand Slam champion decided to fly to Australia to compete at the Australian Open. But instead of playing in this year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the 31-year-old Scot underwent a hip operation Down Under.

‘It is with regret that I won’t be ready to play in Hertogenbosch. I was excited to play there for the first time, but I am not quite ready to return. I am still aiming to play in the coming weeks, but I want to be 100% when I do return,’ says Murray.

The Libéma Open with, among others, Richard Gasquet, Robin Haase, Fernando Verdasco, Karen Khachanov, Gilles Muller, Elise Mertens, Kiki Bertens, Belinda Bencic, Sabine Lisicki, CoCo Vandeweghe and Anett Kontaveit will start on Monday 11 June. The finals of the combined ATP/WTA tournament are scheduled on Sunday 17 June.
