Rus wins Dutch wild card duel

Arantxa Rus has reached the second round at the Libéma Open. Compatriot Bibiane Schoofs was defeated in an entertaining match on centre court with 7-5 6-4.

Despite a 3-0 and 5-1 advantage for Rus the first set had an exciting final. Schoofs came back to 5-5, but finally had to make a bow for her left-handed Fed Cup colleague: 7-5.

It was again Rus who led in the second set through a break at 4-2. Schoofs again came back to 4-4, but at 5-4 she lost her service and was defeated in a long deuce game.

Rus, who is playing in Rosmalen for the 10th time, might meet Kiki Bertens in the second round. However, the first seed has to beat Johanna Larsson first.

Margarita Gasparyan also won her opening match. The Russian with the nice single-handed backhand came back from a one set disadvantage in the lengthy match. She had an impressive victory over seventh seed Viktoria Kuzmova from Slovakia: 7-6 6-4.
