Goffin writes Belgian tennis history in Miami
02/06/16, 14:21While the month of March was full of unpleasant, ancillary tennis matters, special performances were accomplished on the tennis courts. David Goffin became the first Belgian to reach the semi final at the Masters 1000 final in Miami. The 15th seed defeated Gilles Simon 3-6 6-2 6-1. At the preceding event, at Indian Wells, Goffin also achieved a place among the last four. In previous years the 25-year-old player had never made it that far at a Masters 1000 event.
Additionally , Goffin beat four top 20 players in March following his victory against Simon, whereas before he had only defeated six top 20 players in his entire career. Goffin’s top results will result in at least 13th position in the new world ranking, his highest rank ever.
To reach his first Masters 1000 final Goffin will possibly have to pass the world’s number one Novak Djokovic, but then the Serb has to beat Tomas Berdych first.
