Tim van Rijthoven has cancelled for Lib\u00e9ma Open. The titleholder is not one hundred per cent recovered from an elbow injury. Van Rijthoven’s wildcard will be taken over by world number nine Jannik Sinner.<\/p>
Van Rijthoven: ‘With pain in my heart I had to cancel for Lib\u00e9ma Open. I did everything I could to be fit in time, wanted nothing more than to defend my title. Unfortunately, my elbow needs more time to fully recover. I have made great strides, but can’t play full matches at the moment. Hopefully I will be back on the tour soon and for next year, Lib\u00e9ma Open is definitely back on my schedule.’<\/p>
The 21-year-old Sinner came into action once before on the Brabant grass. In 2019, he was outside the top200 when he managed to qualify for the ATP 250 tournament. Since then, things have gone fast for the talented Italian. At the end of that year, he was among the best 100 players. In 2021, he reached the top10 of the world rankings for the first time.<\/p>
‘Lib\u00e9ma Open offers me a great opportunity to play on grass as soon as possible. I thank the organisation for the wildcard. I look forward to returning to action in ‘s-Hertogenbosch after my debut in 2019,’ Sinner said.<\/p>
Sinner joins top10 players Daniil Medvedev and Felix Auger-Aliassime, Grand Slam champion Marin Cilic, Borna Coric and Dutchmen Botic van de Zandschulp and Tallon Griekspoor in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
