Bertens reaches biggest WTA final of her career in Madrid

11/05/18, 18:33

Kiki Bertens has reached the final of the Premier Mandatory tournament of Madrid. She convincingly beat seventh seed Caroline Garcia in the semi-final: 6-2 6-2.

Bertens has been in top form the entire week. The player from Wateringen easily won the matches against Caroline Wozniacki and Mario Sharapova and in today’s match against Garcia she did not get into trouble once.

Bertens will climb from 20th to 15th position in the world rankings because she has reached the final of this big WTA tournament. The 26-year-old gravel specialist is therefore improving her highest ranking ever with 3 places.

Her opponent in the final will be the winner of the match between Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova. Both Czech players are in good form the past weeks. Kvitova won the tournament in Prague last week and Pliskova was the best in Stuttgart.
